The Ski Club of Great Britain snow reports are now published every weekday and are reporting that heavy snow has fallen across Switzerland, France, Italy, Austria and Andorra as resorts begin to open their slopes for the winter season. Some of the highlights include Andermatt, Switzerland (100cm new snow), Cervinia, Italy (60cm) and Livigno, Italy (70cm). Val d’Isère, Tignes, Val Thorens, Zermatt, Verbier, Obergurgl and Ischgl are all now open and have enjoyed significant snowfall over the last two days. There has also been epic snowfalls in Whistler and many Canadian resorts, plus snow is forecast for some American resorts this week. Cairngorm in Scotland also opened at the weekend after snowfall last week. This weekend will see many resorts open for the winter and the webcams on the Ski Club’s website (skiclub.co.uk) are painting an exciting picture of plenty of snow. “This huge amount of snow across Europe has come at the perfect time. After a good start followed by a period of mild weather, many resorts needed a good snowfall to get the slopes in top condition for the start of the season. It looks as though opening day for many resorts will be a memorable one!” said Al Morgan, Information Manager at the Ski Club.
The
Snow Overview on the Ski Club’s
website, which is updated on a Monday
and Thursday, gives a comprehensive
overview of the snow and weather around
the world and for those looking at
booking their holidays, the
Historical Snow Reports are a vital
planning tool. |
